GRIFFIN, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – An 11-year-old girl killed in an early Saturday evening house fire has been identified, according to the Spalding County Coroner’s Office.
Katelynn Simond died as a result of the fire, which happened in the 100 block of Sidney Drive in Griffin around 5:30 p.m.
Spalding County Fire officials said the cause of the fire, which was “fully involved,” was accidental. The fire started on the first floor in the home’s living room, they said.
Simond attended Cowan Road Elementary School, according to the Griffin-Spalding County School District.
Fire officials said two adults and another child survived the fire.
Kristy Rollins, Simond’s mother, said the pain of losing a child is unbearable.
“Lost… like I don’t even have words,” Rollins said. “Broken… like I don’t even know how to get past it.”
Rollins called her little girl “amazing,” adding that she was always in good spirits.
