Zach came across an old dog in the shelter who was surrendered because he had cancer. He couldn’t just let the senior boy die in there alone, so he decided to take him home. He thought he might give the 16-year-old dog a happy final few days or weeks, but he got more than he bargained for from Henry! 🙂
The dog seemed to be at the end, but the very next morning he had a new pep in his step! They then scheduled to get the cancer removed, and Henry started running and galloping around the yard every day. In the depths of despair and neglect, Saint, a Pit Bull, was discovered in a state that could only be described as critical. Emaciated to the bone and too weak to even lift himself for the most basic of needs, his condition was dire. Upon rescue, it was discovered that Saint was burdened with an array of parasites, a testament to the neglect he had suffered. Given his severe state, he was placed in a foster home with little hope for recovery, categorized as a hospice case. The expectations for Saint’s survival were minimal, and those who cared for him braced for the worst, believing his time was drawing to a close.
Saint’s rescue came from the depths of a homeless encampment where he scarcely found nourishment and never knew the care of a veterinarian. It was in this dire situation that Heather, embodying compassion and a willingness to provide end-of-life care, decided to take Saint into her home. Aware of the grim prognosis, Heather accepted the responsibility with a heart full of kindness, prepared to offer Saint comfort in what were expected to be his final days. Her selfless act of love ensured that, regardless of the outcome, Saint would not be alone.
Heather, maintaining a realistic outlook on Saint’s prognosis, was astounded to witness a significant transformation within just two weeks. Saint began to engage with his newfound canine companions and even ventured into the family room to mingle, showing remarkable progress and adaptability to his new surroundings.
Despite the difficulties Saint faced with eating, Heather persisted in her efforts to ensure he received as many calories as possible, although the challenge seemed insurmountable at times. This struggle seemed to confirm the grim expectation that Saint’s chances were slim. Nevertheless, holding onto a sliver of hope, they decided to try one more thing: rotisserie chicken. Remarkably, Saint found this irresistible, sparking a newfound enthusiasm for eating.
