The fire brigade’s swift water rescue crew lowered a rescue basket stretcher to take the pup out of the freezing water.

The tiny pup was placed into the basket before he was hoisted back up from the huge drop and over the quay wall to safety.

Firefighters wrapped him up in a cosy red blanket in an attempt to warm up the pup.

Posting pictures of the terror-struck terrier after the “pawsome” rescue on Twitter, Cork City Fire Brigade said: “Swift water rescue teams entered the river to help a very cold and scared dog who’s cries had been heard by a passer by.

“She is currently on her way to making a full recovery.”

And in a heartwarming update today, the team confirmed that Buddy was doing much better after finding happiness in his “forever home”.

Snapping a picture of the adorable terrier with his new owner, they said: “Earlier this month, Buddy was rescued from the River and he has now found his forever home.

“A massive thank you to Sharon for opening up her home to Buddy.

“And I think you’ll agree, he looks like one happy Doggie.”

Plenty took to the comments to welcome Buddy to “the good life” after his terrifying encounter with the cold water.

One said: “Handsome. Hope he has the happiest life. Sharon heart of gold.”

Another added: “Fantastic to see. Happy forever home Buddy.”

A third said: “Gorgeous well done Sharon that’s great news.”

A fourth chimed in and added: “Buddy has landed on his paws fantastic news.”

And another praised all who ensured the dog was happy by adding: “That’s fantastic news for buddy. Delighted he found his furever home. Well done 2 all who made this happen.”

Separately, watch the adorable moment that took place at Dublin Airport’s arrivals this weekend.

The Irish airport took to Facebook to share a clip as a flight attendant was met with a heart-warming surprise after departing her flight.

In the caption they wrote: “Love was in the air in Dublin Airport with this air stewardess completely unaware about what was about to happen when her boyfriend met her off a flight at arrivals on Saturday night.”

In the video an air hostess can be seen wheeling her suitcase along when she is met by her boyfriend.
