Sometimes we feel that what we do is just a drop in the sea, but the sea would be smaller if one drop were missing.
Wise words from Mother Teresa of Calcutta, and which expresses exactly what André Gondim does, building wheelchairs for disabled animals.
There are people who would love to improve the world, but since they can’t do much, they decide to do nothing. Good thing not everyone is like that.
There are people like André Gondim, from Goiânia, who prefer to do what he can to change the world little by little, but for the better.
The public servant of Goiânia builds and donates wheelchairs for dogs that cannot walk.
He started making the wheelchairs because of a friend’s little dog.
And he was so happy to see the little animal walking that at the end of that same month he ended up making 31 for other dogs! He was never able to stop.
André makes the chairs with PVC tubes and rubber wheels, as he learned by watching videos on the internet.
As he made the pieces, he discovered the best way for each animal until he reached the model he currently has.
He has an improvised factory inside his house, in his daughter’s old room, who is now married and no longer lives there.
Until recently, he took about R$50.00 out of his own pocket to make each chair, but today he manages to make them for free with the help of volunteers.
In a modest way, he told G1 that his act is very small compared to the attitude of people who adopt dogs with some type of disability.
“A person who rescues a disabled street animal makes a huge gesture, what I do is very little compared to the work they have”.
Congratulations! It’s great that there are people like you in the world, André!
