Pixie was found wandering aimlessly, lonely, and in bad shape. It looked as though somebody had purposely burned her tiny body, leaving her skin vulnerable.
Pixie was covered in scabs and sores from incessant scratching due to a bad case of mange. the emaciated form also revealed that she would be a large breed dog, although at only 6 weeks old, she weighed just 4 pounds.
One of the shelter workers, Daphne Bragg, was happy to foster Pixie. She had a puppy a lot like her that had made tremendous progress and Daphne was happy to do the same for little Pixie.
When Pixie met Daphne, she had no idea how to “dog.” With a little help from Daphne and her other dogs, Pixie learned the ropes like how to play games, eat properly, and drink water. Nowadays, you couldn’t tell that Pixie was ever an outsider because she blends in so well with the pack.
Daphne’s dog Elliot experienced many of the same skin problems as Pixie in the beginning. Here is a photo comparison of the two dogs #Twinning
Elliot and Pixie became best of friends. They bonded over their trauma, and little by little, Pixie learned how to be a dog in a household.
Pixie’s skin, with medicated baths, really began to heal and her tiny fur sprouted bit by bit. Daphne thinks she’s going to be a natural redhead ????
PUPdate: The little fighter stayed with Daphne and her dogs for 6 weeks and in that time, she grew confident and very loving. She now has a new family and is a very happy puppy.
This story shows us how important it is to foster. Dogs like Pixie could never thrive without proper foster care. If you have ever considered fostering dogs, please watch the video below!
